So, the age old question, how do i wear red lipstick? From lots of searching online, you can read up on tips to get your perfect shade by knowing what skin tone you are, to people (mostly men) saying that anyone who wears red lipstick looks like a clown. To quote Fashion tips for women from a guy who knows dick about fashion
"Red lipstick looks horrible on most women, and all men. The bright crimson hue is an unnatural abomination pushed upon your face by cynical cosmetic industry scientists. I'm sure somewhere in a laboratory, two scientists are high-fiving each other, laughing at all the bullshit new names for shades of red they invent. There have been literally thousands of names for the same color of lipstick over the years, yet there are only about 3 shades of red: red, dark red, light red. Period. And I mean that grammatically, and not menstrually, though the context makes sense now that I think about it. They just make up names as they go along, and you idiots keep buying the same three shades of red over and over again"
But does it really look that bad? I thought some people could pull it off, and it does depend on hair colour and skin tone to decipher which red to go for.
- Line your lips, as red tends to bleed.
- Lips or eyes, but not both as this tends to make you look overdone, especially in the daytime.
- Pick the right shade for your skin tone. Cool skin tones look best in reds with a blue undertone, whereas warm skin tones look best in coral reds and orangey reds.
- Don't clash with nails. You run the risk of being too matchy matchy.
So, does it honestly look that bad on women to men? I can't see it myself, and will retain the red lippy in my make up bag.

I think a statement lipstick can look gorgeous. I will admit that red lipstick can look really awful if it's been applied badly or it's the wrong shade for someone's skin tone but when done right I think a red lip looks amazing! I love red lipstick, it can make you feel SO much more confident, plus I know a few guys who, unlike the guy you quoted, think its a really sexy look. Each to their own I guess haha xx
