I often wonder how much the elegance and class of clothing has been neglected in the name of 'trend' and 'fashion'. There is no doubting that some of it is classy, and elegant. But those things aren't necessarily fashionble. They are, to some extent sophisticated because they withstood trends. They are timeless pieces. Pieces you could put on twenty years from now and people would glance at your outfit and think the same thing they would if you were to wear it today. 'It's gorgeous, the cut is divine. But it's not in fashion.'
Or maybe it is because those certain pieces, the little black dress for example, never go out of fashion. Maybe they are so classic, that they cannot be 'on trend', because 'on trend' suggests that the item will eventually dwindle in popularity once the season has moved forward. Audrey Hepburn wearing that black dress for example. Even now people would look at a picture of her wearing it and think she looks gorgeous. Can it still be said for the block colour trend? Maybe more classic styles of clothing have much longer lifelines, and the majority of people think they look gorgeous the majority of the time.
This is one to certainly ponder over. I've confused myself though. Maybe classic and elegant styles of clothing are a matter of opinion.
