My day in pictures

I hope everyone is doing ok. I've been quite busy today, and i've not had a chance to respond to as many comments as I'd like to, or comment on other blogs. I promise that I will though. I've just been out an about really, with my new camera, taking pictures and looking like a general tourist. Unfortunately I've not been able to take as many pictures as I'd have liked, mainly because it's a bank holiday and the main camera shop which sells memory cards was closed. However, these are just a few I'd like to share with you.

The top photo is of my favourite road in Durham. I love the uneveness of the houses, and the way that they are all mismatched. The bottom is just shots of when I stopped for coffee.

How was your day? Did you stay in and watch the Royal Wedding, or were you out and about like me?

Embrace The Lace

I adore cream lace dresses. Especially with black tights and brogues.

Eek!

Just got back from the cinema. I saw Thor! If you haven't seen it, I recommend it. Even if you aren't a super geek like me, just check it out so you can lust over Chris Hemsworth. Oh hell yes!

The main point of this message though is that my computer seems to have some trouble responding to some comments that have been left. I will respond to all of them as soon as I use another computer/internet, but at the moment you'll just have to bear with me. Hopefully it'll be working by tomorrow.

By the way, before I forget, thank you all for your lovely messages. Never did I think I would receive such kind words, and every comment makes my day. I will endeavour to respond to each and every one personally, but sometimes I can't see a link to your blog, so post one if it's not in your profile and I will respond as soon as I am able. Many thanks again.

Inspirational Tuesday

I'm feeling really inspired today. I don't really know why. I'm just having one of those days where I wake up in a good mood, I'm not too tired and I don't feel like I've had too much sleep, everything goes right and I'm relaxed. I did somehow mislay my deodorant for a short while, but thankfully that's under control.

My post today is focussing on things that have inspired me, whether it be on fashion or on life. I hope that they can inspire you too, if you're lacking Inspiration. The quote I think, may be particularly pertinent to bloggers.

"Try not to become a man of success, but a man of value."  Albert Einstein.

Pictures that have inspired me.

Inspirational People

Sorry for the royal hype, and the obvious inspirational person, that is Gandhi. I'm really excited about the Royal Wedding, despite not being overly interested in the royals. The media has hyped it up so much that I hope it lives up to it. Gandhi has genuinely inspired me ever since I learned about him in History at school.

So, my dear lovely readers. What inspires you? What makes you smile and think 'life isn't so bad.'

Rachel Bilson Love

I hope everyone has had a great bank holiday weekend. Whatever you've been doing, chilling in the sun, spending time with friends etc, I hope it's been good.  Mine has been consisting of mainly working on my blog and taking slight note of the tv. Oh, and I went out on Saturday night, which is what one of Sunday's posts is about.

I'm going to spread some love for one of my much adored style icons. She seriously looks gorgeous in all photos. I love her style and here is no exception. Who is your favourite style icon? Who makes you laugh, who makes you cry, and who makes you smile?

Tattoo love and Laura Marling

I had the most odd and inspiring dream last night. When I say inspiring, I mean it gave me the idea for this blog post.

I was dreaming that I told everyone I'd gotten a tattoo. This is really far removed from reality, because even though they look lovely, I don't think I could willingly go through the pain. Also, I'd be worried that in a few years it wouldn't be as loved as it would be now. Anyway, I told everyone I had a tattoo. They asked to see it and I told them that I had ringworm (again, I don't), and that if I lifted up my jumper, they'd catch it too. They declined to see it, and my lie could continue living.

That was just a dream, but it inspired me to post some pictures of tattoos, so that I (we) can look at them in wonder, instead of going through the pain to get one, or lying to everyone that we have one, faking some ailment as an excuse as to why you can't show it off.

I also wanted to spread some love for the fantastic Laura Marling. She's fabulous. I think I also dreamt about her too. Listen to her music if you like that Indie/Folk sound.

Have you got a tattoo, or a favourite? Show me yours, 'cos I've showed you mine! :)

Awkward moments

Ah! Are you ever in a situation where you cannot say a word for fear of upsetting someone, and you're caught between two people, unable to side with either. I was in that position yesterday and it wasn't much fun. It seems as though alcohol has the ability to allow one to project opinions more loudly than you would sober. I'm not talking about me, of course. I generally keep my opinions to myself as I cannot articulate them as well as I'd like to, or defend them if people try to pick holes.

To cheer myself up, I've been looking at pictures of the gorgeous Alexa Chung. I know she's not to everyone's taste, so I'll keep it short with my favourite outfits I've seen her wearing. It's to keep in with the vintage theme of today, I'm just in one of those moods where nothing will satisfy me until I'm in a lace dress, black tights and brogues. I don't care if it's not high fashion at the moment, it still looks gorgeous.

I am now cheering up considerably. Another thing which has brightened my day is the thought that my camera is coming soon. It's a Fujifilm finepix 9600. I'm so excited and I'll post my pictures as soon as I can!

Paul Smith's Spring/Summer Collection

In my earlier posts about new spring/summer collections, you would have remembered me mentioning the masculine cuts of the clothing, and how it's a look a lot of designers are going for this season. Paul Smith's Spring/Summer collection is no different. In fact, it really exaggerates masculinity. The collection takes typically masculine pieces, such as a shirt, and adds feminine and playful touches, such as a neck scarf or the neckline being lower than usual. I love the cheeky polka dots featured on one of the pieces I'm about to show you.

To describe the pieces more fully, I have taken this description from the Paul Smith's website:

"This season explores the form and functionality of the traditional men’s shirt, emphasizing its metamorphosis to maximum effect on the catwalk through the alteration of colour, print, fabric and shape.
The subtle combination of signature menswear influences, quirky detailing and iconic multicoloured stripes embrace the essence of Paul Smith.
Girls with rockabilly hair, dark shades and loosely knotted ties blur the gender boundaries in crisp, boyish loose-fit shirts teamed with slim trousers, rolled or cropped, that finish above the ankle.
Clean-cut wool tailored jackets and dresses appear to have been torn like paper to reveal a pretty, layered contrast beneath.
Sexy, athletic influences add a sporty, feminine feel with playful all-in-ones, revealing cutaway racer- backs and tiny piped-edge gym shorts.

Darkened tones are softened by painterly pink roses and psychedelic painted marble swirls. A palette of charcoal, khaki and burnt chocolate is highlighted with shots of acid yellow, tan and spring green."

Here are just a few of my favourite pieces. You can find the full range here.

So there you have it. A selection of a few, dare I say it, androgynous pieces. It really looks like I need to start buying some more shirts and tailored trousers...
