On my face - Estee Lauder Double Wear (Shell) Topshop cream blush (neon rose), Maybelline great lash mascara, Benefit Moon Beam, Elf therapeutic conditioning balm - strawberry creme. Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder - pink blossom.
Kudos to anyone who recognises the song lyrics in my title. I am rekindling my love for Bombay Bicycle Club since they popped up on my ipod a few days ago. I especially like this song, it's been on constant replay since hearing it. The uplifting beat leaves me in a happy mood. I apologise for the slightly blurry photo today, it was basically the only one where I wasn't looking gormless or angry in, I need to work on my camera face.
Lately I've just been testing out the products that people in my last post expressed an interest in. I know I said I have used the products since Christmas and I have, but not as much as I'd like to. I also just wanted to post a simple post today with just me in! I wanted to break up the whole beauty reviews with a different post, as I want this to be a lifestyle blog and not a beauty blog. I mainly aim to post about things that interest me, the recipes I share on here are of things I've personally made and find yummy, I post about the beauty products that I'm interested in, bits of personal photography and little thoughts etc. I also realised that some of you may not even know what I look like really as I don't often show my face on here. I don't know about you but I always feel more in touch with someone if I can see a photo of them or know what they look like. It makes me connect to their blog much more, if that makes sense?
What do you look for in a blog? What makes you subscribe to a blog? Is it just one thing or a mixture of things? Would you subscribe simply because they have a pretty layout, or post pretty photos? Or do you have to be interested in what they post to subscribe? Ahh so many questions and I'm not asking for any particular motive, I'm just interested. Have a good evening!

You look so cute! Nice blush shade :> Very natural look, love it.

I think the scent is really lovely, but not candy! :> I hate too overwhelming smells, make my head ache a lot. I found nice description about it;

hih thanks for asking by the way; now I added a little quotation of the scent to my post ^^
ReplyDeleteyour make up is stunning. you have beautiful skin!

Thank you :)! I think you can thank my foundation for my skin! :) xx
DeleteBeautiful au naturel make-up :) I love the layout of your blog, esp the icons along the top. I find that I tend to suscribe to blogs with a simple layout that catches the eye, not too much waffling on and not too many pictures of themselves (I get fed-up of having to scroll through too many "i love myself pics"). Also I like reading a blog that has a mixture of things, such as fashion, make-up, food, etc. xx
ReplyDeletewww.hautedamnhelena.blogspot.com
thank you for your reply :)! I was just wondering what people were looking for as I find it interesting. It's always intriguing to see if people are subscribing to blogs for the same reason as me too, hehe :) xx
DeleteYour make-up looks great :) I like blogs which are a mixture, not entirely focused on make-up or one particular topic. Its nice to read about a range of things.
ReplyDeleteI love the layout of your blog it looks great :)

Love the new layout guess i havent been visiting in awhile! But you still look great and i love natural makeup its refrshing!

You look lovely in this photo, and the Topshop blusher looks great! (but then it could also be down to how well you apply, which isn't very in my case). In a blog I look for content that interests me as well as how the blog looks overall- there are some I follow that I wouldn't say I particularly like the design of but the content is well written/interesting/funny enough to make me follow! xx
ReplyDeleteI'm liking all the answers, it's interesting to hear what makes people follow a blog! I thought it'd be an interesting question to ask :)! Thanks re: the blusher. I just dotted it on my cheeks and then used a brush to blend, but soon realised the brush wasn't blending it that well and used my fingers :) xx
Deleteit's difficult to explain... i love creative people /no matter fashion, art, cooking/ and for that reason i like different blogs. Sometimes is from the first sight, sometimes i'm so impressed and stay in a blog for hours reading last posts
ReplyDeleteyour blog is one of those blogs :)
Aww thank you very much! I am so pleased you think that way! It's encouraged me to do more creative posts like my recipe ones :) xx
DeleteThis is a great make-up, very natural and pretty! Love it!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day,

That foundation looks great... May have to try.I don't follow a lot of blogs - I think, maybe I do, I don't know - however it is quite a wide range. I am of course interested in knitting, crafting etc blogs, and I prefer the ones with tutorials usually and with similar taste to mine (to work out what my next project would be). In lifestyle blogs, I think it is difficult to define what I am looking for, again it would be probably related to my style. I also like 'sporty' ones for inspiration when I really don't want to go for run or go to Pilates (like today!). Pictures are really important though I find, and content as well - but usually those go hand in hand..
ReplyDeleteyou look so cute! I like a blog if it has a good layout (not too overloaded) and a topic that I am interested in.
ReplyDeletehttp://thesmallnoble.blogspot.com/
Your make-up looks fab Sarah. I like a blog if it posts interesting stuff & there's not an essay to read!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.intotheblonde.com/
You look lovely, I love your makeup - it looks so fresh and springy. Very cute!
ReplyDeleteWhen I follow a blog it is usually because I feel like the persons writing connects with me. I like people who can have a bit of humour in their writing, it makes their posts fun to read and therefore I want to keep up on their posts so I follow them!
I also like layouts that are simple and clean, messy layouts make it hard to focus on the writing.
& I completely agree with you, photos of the writer themselves helps make it feel like you know them more and aren't just reading some random article.

i like all of the above. Reading reviews, hearin about your life, and reading your recipes! that makes me trust you more when you do have reviews.
ReplyDeleteloving the natural look at the mo, love it xxx
ReplyDeletehey :) thanks for the comment in my blog!
ReplyDeleteI must agree with you when it comes to the fact that lifestyle blogs are more versatile than beauty blogs... or at least I think so since life isn't only about makeup and it's interesting to see how other bloggers from all around the world live, what they do, wear.. anything actually. you have to write about the things you want to :)
btw, I think your blog is really cute and would you maybe like to follow each other to stay in touch? :)

DeleteLovely haircut! Your blog is so cute! =)

What i like about a blog is to get some inspiration of any kind.
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about blogging is that you can connect with people that are miles away from you and realize that you would have never had the chance to know them without blogging.
I love this pic! It brings out the color of your hair, finally! Great pic. You seem to be smiling, for once. =) And I like the Bombay Bicycling Club. I like the song they had on the New Moon soundtrack (or Eclipse, idk). I do like hearing about the beauty products you review very much, but I would also like to hear more about you, and your lifestyle. It's great learning about people. Take care.

what i like best are personal connections with photos, stories, or interactions through comments. i do like to look at pretty, funny, or fascinating things. i favor art or music, but it all depends on the personality of the individual. i grow weary of people trying to sell me things all the time. did i answer your questions, dear sarah?
ReplyDeleteYour so naturally pretty hun! and I love your hair! :) xx
ReplyDeletethe blush looks really nice, such a nice colour :) also you have great hair! x

Wow, you look beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd hmm, I think its a mix of things that makes me subscribe to a blog. I like reading good content (I'm a skimmer though, so I like short posts), and a pretty set-up/photos help.
In fact, I'm following your blog now because of this! Haha, great blog <3

i like it when people's personality comes through, either in their writing or in their photos/content. i read a lot of different types of blogs and i love the ones that combine things and talk about normal life as well as high fashion.. it's nice to have a variety! right now i'm obsessed with cupcakes and cashmere! i think emily has impeccable taste and a really good eye!
ReplyDeleteyour skin looks FLAWLESS by the way on the first photo!!

I actually don't know that band, but obviously I should! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of you, it DID make me realize that I don't see many of you on here. More, please! Haha
When I find blogs that I decide to follow, it's because I've genuinely taken an interest into getting to know that person more, because of a few reasons, but the main one being that we either have something in common, or their writing style has inspired me. I do love to see pictures of the people I'm following, or at least descriptions of their daily lives - it makes me feel close to them. I find that I don't really follow any fashion blogs that showcase pictures of famous people on the runway or whatever; I mean, pictures like that every now and then is fine, but I am not interested when it's only a fashion blog about famous people that I already see on tv. I love 'real' people fashion blogs, or blogs in general of course.
I only just came across your blog and really love it! :) The design is amazing and I love your style of writing :)

i read almost everything that i subscribe to and i only have a few regrets and those are mostly because i'm not interested in the content, even if the photographs are pretty. xo
ReplyDeleteyou look so lovely!!! sweetie i loveee blogs with humor too!! besides that feeling like you would like to know more about the writer. :) I loveee pictures!! big ones, something that catches my eye - it could be fashion to any lifestyle aspect. I love to mix it up myself, juss one aspect like fashion all the time can get redundant ( they are enough blogs out there who have that going)

I've been thinking about your question already many times before and it is very hard to answer.
ReplyDeleteI think, the mixture has to be right - layout, content, pictures, everything counts in.
Have a nice weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI usually look for a good writing style.. that's something that makes me connect to a blogger. In some fashion blogs people just put a few pics and blindly write 'I am wearing this.. this and this'. It doesn't feel personal to me somehow.. I feel that something is missing. A blog needs to have a personality!
ReplyDelete♥ www.thegirlatfirstavenue.com
i think it's the combination of everything from site layout, to the person themselves, their personality, writing style, and level of professionalism mixed with a bit of personal thoughts here and that that makes me subscribe to someone! I like your website though =)) it's really great. i like how you're writing about stuff you want to (more so a lifestyle blog) it's more personal that way! keep in touch <3 ^_^

You are so cute, beautiful blush :)
ReplyDeletethe things I look for are:
ReplyDeletepersonality, variety, and a likeable person.
if thats there then I dont care about picture quality or frequency of posts... xxx
You're such a babe Sarah! O_O hehe.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm I like blogs with light/white backgrounds, i cannot stand flashing lights/dark backgrounds or my biggest peeve- blogs that play music! Uhhh i cant stand it! I end up going crazy and shutting all my tabs to try and stop the music heh.
Ummmm I like blogs with pretty pictures i guess, but i cant STAND blogs where girls post about a billion pictures of themselves in really inappropriate poses with bad lighting! What i like about blogs like your's is that you seem like a really down to earth, nice person and you seem like you blog cos you genuinely enjoy it rather than blogging JUST to get followers, free stuff, comments etc. Plus im nosy and i like reading about peoples lives hehe.
Wooppsss I'm sorry about the mammoth comment! >_< Have a lovely weekend <3 <3
ps also i love the sweet and thoughtful comments you leave, not just 'love these, look at my blog! It's awesome, come take a look and follow me!' that irks me no end! xxxxxxxxxxx
Absolutely pretty!

You look very pretty :) You are really good at the beauty side of it-- and a good all around blogger.
ReplyDeleteI generally follow blogs that are easy to navigate. A simple layout and pretty pictures. I also love when people can write well. People that are witty, and can laugh at themselves and make me laugh will definitely get my following them. If I get the sense they are doing it because they love it, as oppose to getting followers, that also helps. I help it when people just comment and say 'comment back', and they clearly haven't read any of the dialogue. DRIVES ME NUTS!
Anyway, I hope you are well :) It's nice to see your face-- you're right, it helps to connect us all a bit! x
That's really interesting what you've said about pictures of your face to help us connect! I have this problem too, I dont often post pictures of myself on my blog because I feel a bit silly - but I always really like to see pics of other people and the first thing I do when I find a new blog is click the about page to see what they look like! You have inspired me to try and put a bit more personality out there!
ReplyDeleteOther things I look for in a blog - pretty and simple layout with good quality pictures and a nice balance between personal content, DIYs and snippets of life! Thanks for asking the question, I've really enjoyed reading everyone else's answers :) xxx
What a gorgeous photo of you Sarah - I'm so envious of your beautiful skin tone; and your evident make-up knowledge (which I sadly lack). And seeing as you asked, things that generally draw me toward a blog are good quality photos, variety of post topics, & realism in the way that you write! (All of which your blog has by the way! ;)
