Models Own have been that brand that lots of bloggers seem to use and be talking about. Personally I think that most Models Own nail polishes are great as the bottles are huge and they dry quickly, but there are differences in the quality of some of the polishes.
I decided to rank some of the Models Own nail polishes I have in terms of easiness to apply and how well they lasted on the nails. I thought this might be helpful to any of you who are considering buying some Models Own nail polishes. Having said that, this is entirely my opinion, you might love one of the colours I've not liked. The ones I found great are listed above. I found that I got great colour pay off after just one coat and they lasted for days on the nails. The Models Own nail polishes I ranked as ok took a few coats to get good colour pay off, and they didn't last as long on the nails. The ones I ranked as bad had a more watery consistency and I found it difficult to get a nice opaque colour from them. I found they chipped more easily, even after a few hours of wear!
What is your favourite brand for nail polish?

Such a great idea to rank them. I'm a Chanel addict & occasionally use Revlon if they bring out a fab colour...no fluctuations in quality thankfully!

I agree it's a great idea to rank them, and...I love all those shades :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Sarah, I don't own any Models Own polishes yet.. but I hate ones that are too watery, and I never really considered the fact some may chip more easily than others! xx
ReplyDeleteI'm an OPI girl myself! Just got their mini dutch collection - in love!

Hi Sarah, thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment :) you really made my day...
ReplyDeleteHope you visit again sometime - and I'm more of an OPI girl as well...I love the "Steady as she rose" color

I always see really nice model's own colours on bloggers, but it's not sold in Canada. I tend to stick with Essie cuz they have really fun colours!
ReplyDeletethere are some really cool colours you have there - Im loving the bright coral shades for spring/summer nails, and also the many pastel icecreamy shades :)

I find Models Own consistency to be awful for me, they chip so easily! Such a pity because the colours are to die for :(
ReplyDeletexxx
Oh that's a shame :(! I've always found them fine apart from the odd few xo
DeleteI love the colours but Models Own chips like crazy on my nails :(
ReplyDeleteIsabela
That "Grey Day" colour looks like it would be SO lovely! I adore that colour, it'd be great for work!

I want to try Models Own so bad, but no where near me sells them. I LOVE Essie polishes and of course O.P.I.!
ReplyDeletehttp://constantlykatie.blogspot.com/
sarah, it's funny how the chemicals in one color can change the whole formula, isn't it? i'm still on the hunt of my favorite polish brand. i've heard really good things about the new L'oreal line. i haven't tried it yet. for value, colors, & how long the polish lasts, i like what i mentioned before, the sally hansen Xtreme wear.
ReplyDeleteSo many great shades! I've never tried this brand before. I usually wear OPI and Chanel colors.
ReplyDeleteTHANK you so much for your comment on my blog! Follow each other?

Thanks for your lovely comment! True, sometimes life passes by so fast :) I'd love to have the lilac nailpolish from them, but I haven't seen them in Austrian shops yet...
ReplyDeleteBesides, I'm still wearing my Rimmel London mintgreen one :D
oh, now i want to try the pink and turquoise. thanks
ReplyDeletehttp://myafricancloset.wordpress.com
I really want to try Top Turquoise and Lilac Dream! They look gorgeous. I generally like the Maybelline nail polishes, and No7 have some pretty good shades too (: xox
ReplyDeletehttp://myobsessiondujour.blogspot.co.uk/
Yes I have a few No7 polishes, I may have to redo my nails tomorrow with one :) xo

This is such a fantastic idea - thank you so much for doing this! I haven't used any Models Own varnishes yet, but will most certainly be checking this out when I do :)
ReplyDeleteI really like Rimmel for budget nail varnishes - great choice of shades and for me, I've found the quality to be great. If I'm treating myself, I do have a soft spot for Chanel's range - but that is usually a pay day treat!
xx
You're welcome, I'm glad it could be of help :) I like Rimmel too, but I think I only own one Rimmel polish xo
DeleteLove these nail polishes, great colors!

This is such a good post and really interesting to see your views.
ReplyDeleteThe first Models Own polish I used I was a bit disappointed with and I couldn't understand what all of the hype was but I've recently become a huge fan of them. I love their choice of colours and I find them so much better quality than other brands, although I tend to use relatively cheap brands so that's probably why!

I've looked at the nude beige one a couple of times in boots, and also a kind of dusty pink one but always put them back because I wasn't sure how Nails Inc was as a brand!
ReplyDeletesorry to hear you've been having a hard time lately, hope you're feeling better soon!

How interesting that they differ so much within the same brand! Bizarre! I love OPI and Nails Inc, but recently found Aussie brand ChiChi to be really good too!

I've actually never seen Models Own nail polishes, but if I do the next time I'm out polish-shopping I will definitely keep this in mind. I love honest rating systems like this. I know it's your opinion, but I take some things like this to heart. I hate watery nail polishes. There are a few from Essie that are like that and it takes literally about 6 coats to make it opaque. Anywho, thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if we have these here in Canada but I've seen them on other blogs before. The colours are so pretty! My fave brands are Deborah Lippmann, OPI, and Essie :)
ReplyDeletexo, alison*elle
Thanks for visiting my blog! I've never used Models Own, I usually use OPI or Essie because I don't have steady hands for applying polish, but these brands seem to go on a bit easier.

I have never tried this brand, but I am surprise to know that they actually differ in quality. My favorite brands are Sally Hansen and OPI.

I love the idea of this post!! I have never tried Model's Own but would love to be able to try some. Most of my polishes are Chanel (I have a weakness for them but they are so pricey) and OPI.

I really like Topshop nail varnish at the moment, the colours are all so pretty and last quite a long time. Rimmel is also an obvious favourite.
ReplyDeleteLoving your new layout by the way! x
Wow, lovely colours! I prefer OPI, think they subconciously makes me feel that last longer.

I love different colours and found your post very interesting though I don't colour my fingernails. I only have three colourful nail polishes (Oriflame, Alessandro - lasts for almost forever :P, Bourjois) at home and those I use when colouring my toenails. for my fingernails I have a manicurist and I visit her after every two months. this is how long my manicure lasts :)

Beautiful colours, I've never tried any models own polishes, going to try on from your 'greats'.
ReplyDeleteThe quick drying element is a big plus for me! It's hard to find wonderful hues that are also quick sets. I may have to invest in some... minus the last three! =D

This is really helpful, I adore models own but I definitely feel that the colours can be a bit inconsistent, high pigment is a must for me and sometimes they're just too watered down
ReplyDeleteLove to try some of your "greats" though
Definitely! Some are so opaque and then others are a total let down xo
DeleteI don't own any Model's Own polishes but have been so tempted by the glittery ones in their Ibiza collection. The beth's blue colour in your collection is gorgeous! x
ReplyDeleteIt's one of my favourites! I have Ibiza Mix too and I love it xo

Ooh, interesting. I don't own one bottle of Models Own - my favourite nail varnish brand is probably Barry M! Love 'em. x

ReplyDeletehttp://aprettylife13.blogspot.com
totally agree, I've recently started buying Models Own but I've found some of the colours (specifically Pastel Pink and Lemon Meringue) to be so hard to apply evenly and consistently x
ReplyDeleteI love the pink and blue in the first shot :> Cute pastels.
ReplyDeleteI have several different brands. Although I don't wear polishes all that much, and when I remember to put on some I get tired of same colour easily or change outfit all the time, so it doesn't really matter if the colour starts to crack. That's probably why I never buy expensive nailpolishes because the quality / how long it lasts doesn't mean all that much to me right now. :) Would love to try Essie soon though.
Thank you for the comment! ^^
Have a happy May Day tomorrow.

I totally agree with you!! I bought some in the 50% sale last year (juicy jules and blue boo or something to that effect) and I really wasn't impressed with the blue one but absolutely loved the juicy jules glitter one... I really fancy trying the ibiza mix ones they're next on my to buy list!!

I haven't tried Models Own but these colours are lovely - I like Jessica, Essie and Chanel as I like the colour range and I find that they don't chip and really seem to last.
