Electric Heart

Cardigan - Recent Topshop purchase, but couldn't find it online.
Dress - New Look

This is the first proper outfit post I've published on this blog and I was just wondering what you thought of me publishing outfit posts in the future on here? I've never really done them before but I've always enjoyed reading these kinds of posts on other people's blogs. I know these aren't the best photos ever taken, but I've never properly used my tripod before so excuse the cheesy/awkward pose and unflattering angle. I need to improve but I think I did alright for my first go. If you have any tips or tricks on taking outfit pictures for me they would be greatly appreciated!

I was going to wear this dress outside but as you can see in the photo, it has some serious gaping around the chest area so I decided to go with a more modest dress. I really like it though, especially because the cardigan is slightly multicoloured and has a bit of pink in it, so they go together perfectly.

My open university course started on Tuesday. It's going to take me a while to get back into studying again as I've been out of university for two years, but hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things soon.

How do you fix up a dress that you feel self conscious in?

  1. Post as many outfit posts as you would like! It is your blog. Congrats on your first one :] Also - using natural light is best :] It looks like you are using it in the photo. You look really pretty in this look. I really like the cardigan and the print on the dress is just too fun.

    Best of luck with school!

I usually will cover my dresses in layers if I feel uncomfortable.

  6. I struggle taking photos too so I'll be looking for any good tips you get!
I have some little cami vests that I got from Primark for about £2.50 that I wear under everything! I feel about 12 and weaing a vest in - they are really clingy so the suck it all in too lol - the amount of times I get asked if I've lost weight when I wear one under something hehe

  7. I really need to get around to writing the "tips and tricks" series on my space! But in the mean time you know you can always write me! I get this wardrobe malfunction a lot! Why girls go out and buy the "things" is beyond me! =D I usually do one of two things... A. Wardrobe Tape to close the gap B. Button the cardi at the top Zooey Dashanel style Those are usually quick and easy fixes! Glad to see you doing some style posts and hope to see more in the future!

  11. to be honest I think I don't own such dresses because I don't keep things that aren't nice to wear.. or when I do have something then it's being hidden somewhere and when I find it, it goes anyway :P but I really think that dress looks so lovely on you. it's such a perfectly cute print and I can't notice anything annoying here. don't think about it too much ;) and definitely keep posting your outfits!

  13. i LIKE this outfit! show us more. great bold on color trend. what if you added a belt to the waist either under or over the cardigan? that way it would show off your curves. or would that make you feel more self conscious?

  15. Oh, I love this! Your first outfit post. How exciting! :) I would enjoy seeing this as a regular thing on your blog.
The best pictures are taken outside, I feel. I only wish I had a better backdrop in my backyard than the fence and shed I always use, but that's all I've got.
The gaping isn't so big at all, so you could have gotten away with it. But I understand if it made you feel uncomfy. If I'm not comfortable with a dress showing my shoulders I add a cardigan or a shirt underneath! And if it's a short dress, I just add tights.
I look forward to more outfit posts! This dress is lovely. Heart print is my fave.

    1. Thank you, I will definitely try to keep up this in my blog :)! I always wanted to take photos outside but I always feel self conscious snapping photos of myself outside - I even feel self conscious snapping them inside but hopefully with time I will gain more confidence :). I am the same re: dresses and shoulders. I almost always wear a cardigan over a dress, which can be a pain in the summer :)xx

  17. I like the heart print!

I like the outfit posts, too!

If you have gaping in your shirt, use a safety pin. Being a larger chested girl myself, I know it causes problems with button ups, so that always seems to work. =)

  18. Love them both, the post and the outfit!
When stuff doesn't fit me quite right up top, I'll usually just throw on a color coordinated cami, and leave the top button undone!

  20. usually when the gape is on the top two buttons..I just unbutton the top one and secure it with a safety pin if it's too plunging :) try it :) That dress is too purrrrty to stay in the closet :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. GO FOR IT!! :)
I can never get photos of my outfits cos as soon as i get home I get changed and then remember I'd meant to photograph it! LOL.
I agree with trying the safety pin in the top, I have the same problem with lots of clothes due to a rather ample bosom!:)

  31. That dress is lovely! I'm shy about doing outfit posts, but I think you just have to go for it and be confident in what you're wearing. I don't think outfit posts are essential, but they're great when you've got a good location you want to shoot in, or a special new outfit that you want to share. They're also great if taking photos of your clothing flat (like I usually do) doesn't do that particular item justice - lots of my vintage dresses just look shapeless when photographed on a hanger. x

  35. OHHH HEYYYY!! How are you doing pretty lady?! I know I've said this before but you are a BABE (and a half) O_O. I love the darker haiurrrss on you too! I neeeddd to go get this dress but it means walking through my town, which means walking past a bunch of weirdos O_o (for example the guy who walks around all day in army gear beret included AND the man who sings ALL the time AND the man who aggressively says hi to everyone and gets mad when you dont stop and engage him in conversation :S he followed me round a shop once proffering up clothes he thought might suit me)

Hmmm anyway, yes yes yes post more outfits! I love your aesthic- its so girly and pretty and candy cane coloured rainbows and ponies! hehe.

How's the course going?! Eeeepp tell me about it >_< i've been out of education for 2 years tooooo i think i've forgotten how to write :/ xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  36. ps i think these pictures look great! Hahah trust me you wouldnt want tips of me :( my 'outfit' (i feel silly just saying that) posts are appalling and just involve me squinting and grinning at the camera in the dullest light possible to fool you all into thinking i am not troll like.

My only advice is to pick a spot with loads of natural light and to try and make the poses seem natural (i detest blogs where its just picture after picture of them trying to sexy! It weirds me out) :D xxxxxxxxxx

Your dress is so cute, I love the mint piping on it. Hmmm, although I can see why you didn't like the gap part of it. Haha, that might cause a problem.
To wear a dress I like but feel self conscious in, I usually try belting a skirt over it to make it into a top, or add a cardigan (like what you did).

  53. I like the dress. It's really cute~ the color is exquisite. I'm loving bright colors or slide shades for warmer weather nowadays! I think a belt would look great with the dress. Ultimately, i think you should post what you feel you're comfortable with. I like posts about anything to be honest and always found your posts interesting so i'm excited to see what you'll be posting in the future :P

    HELLOOOO MONICA~~~~ :D it's been awhile!

HAHAHAH Vancouver's weather sounds just like NYC weather right now.. It's also been so rainy and somewhat on the cold side these past 2 weeks here. Also, everytime it's not supposed to rain..i dont bring an umbrella, then guess what? IT rains lol! Supposedly it's finally starting to warm up this week, so we'll see. Hope the weather starts getting better and sunshine for ya!

I like the singer's voice in the music video you posted. She has a strong voice~ i like artists who have really true singing voices (those who can actually sing lol).

I can so relate to your high school experience. I was the same - took a lot of shit from people and always cared about others and what they thought before myself.. i wasn't very happy, but after i went to college - i finally became more of 'myself' and grew a lot from different experiences that shape who i am today. I agree, we all just have to be ourselves. The phrase, happiness comes from within, is really true! Exactly, if you are not in the wrong, no need to apologize!!

For the dress, I can suggest that you wear a tank top underneath and leave the top button unbuttoned. That will fix the gap problem.
