Probably the longest title for a post ever! Sorry about that. If you've been a reader of my blog for a while now you may have realised that I was an avid collector of the Revlon Lip Butters (I reviewed the shade Sweet Tart here). I think I may have had ten in my collection at one point, but since then some have been given to friends and relatives. A short while after the Lip Butters were released, L'Oreal launched the Rouge Caresse lipsticks, and I got myself down to Boots and purchased a couple — for research purposes of course.
The Boots website currently offers thirteen Rouge Caresse shades and fourteen Lip Butter shades to choose from. However, while the difference in colour selection is minimal online, I often find a wider selection of Lip Butter shades in store, including my local Boots. Additionally, I prefer the shade range for the Lip Butters and they are slightly cheaper at £7.99 compared to £8.19 for the Rouge Caresse lipsticks.
Having said that, the Rouge Caresse lipsticks definitely feel better on the lips. They are glossier and feel more moisturising and lightweight compared to the Lip Butters, which feel thicker and heavier. Unfortunately, the disadvantage of being lightweight and glossy is that the Rouge Caresse lipsticks suffer slightly when it comes to longevity: overall, the pigmentation and length of wear of the Lip Butters are superior.
To sum up, both are good products and they have different strengths and weaknesses, so it depends on what you're after on the day. If you want something longer-wearing with high pigmentation, I'd recommend the Revlon Lip Butters. However if you're after a sheer wash of colour and a glossy finish, pick up a L'Oreal Rouge Caresse lipstick.
Have you tried both? Which do you prefer?
