Difference between Lip Butters and Rouge Caresse

Probably the longest title for a post ever! Sorry about that. If you've been a reader of my blog for a while now you may have realised that I was an avid collector of the Revlon Lip Butters (I reviewed the shade Sweet Tart here). I think I may have had ten in my collection at one point, but since then some have been given to friends and relatives. A short while after the Lip Butters were released, L'Oreal launched the Rouge Caresse lipsticks, and I got myself down to Boots and purchased a couple — for research purposes of course.

The Boots website currently offers thirteen Rouge Caresse shades and fourteen Lip Butter shades to choose from.  However, while the difference in colour selection is minimal online, I often find a wider selection of Lip Butter shades in store, including my local Boots. Additionally, I prefer the shade range for the Lip Butters and they are slightly cheaper at £7.99 compared to £8.19 for the Rouge Caresse lipsticks.

Having said that, the Rouge Caresse lipsticks definitely feel better on the lips. They are glossier and feel more moisturising and lightweight compared to the Lip Butters, which feel thicker and heavier. Unfortunately, the disadvantage of being lightweight and glossy is that the Rouge Caresse lipsticks suffer slightly when it comes to longevity: overall, the pigmentation and length of wear of the Lip Butters are superior.

To sum up, both are good products and they have different strengths and weaknesses, so it depends on what you're after on the day. If you want something longer-wearing with high pigmentation, I'd recommend the Revlon Lip Butters. However if you're after a sheer wash of colour and a glossy finish, pick up a L'Oreal Rouge Caresse lipstick.

Have you tried both? Which do you prefer?

Remember me?

26 Nov 2012

So, I'm back! I thought I'd explain where I had gone to, because although sometimes I take short breaks from blogging here and there, I've not properly been myself with blogging since June time. I never meant for the break to be so long, but some pretty big things have happened in my life over the summer and autumn which led me to take a longer break from blogging.

I'm not usually one to share too much of my life on my blog. I mean, I freely share my stories but when they concern loved ones I am usually more careful about what I put online, but my boyfriend said he was ok with me mentioning it on my blog. I can't remember if I ever mentioned, but my boyfriend's mum suffered from cancer. It was terminal but she responded well to treatment so my boyfriend and I were under the impression that as long as she kept having treatment, she would live. However, over the summer her health declined and she spent most of her days in hospital. She decided in August not to continue with treatment and in the September she sadly passed away at the age of 52. She was courageous throughout her entire fight with the disease. It was the most difficult thing to see someone's health decline so rapidly, and even though it was hard and I miss her,  it comforts me to know that she spent her final days with her loved ones and that she was as comfortable as possible.

About a month later, my boyfriend's grandma passed away.  I can't even begin to imagine how hard it must have been for him to lose two people in such a short space of time. So, that's why recently blogging hasn't been at the forefront of my mind, as I felt like my boyfriend needed my support. Things have slowly been getting better, and for a few weeks now I've been wanting to blog. It was just about finding the right moment and words to explain why I had taken such a long hiatus, why e-mails and comments have gone unanswered and why I've been absent from the blogging world for longer than I intended.

Sorry for such a long post and I'll try to get back to comments as soon as possible.
